Rumble In The Void

I’ve only just remembered the times I used to spend playing this awesomely simple top-down space war game on Wireplay (back when it belonged to BT – circa 2001). Sadly, and to some extent uniquely, virtually all mention of this game has vanished from the internet. All I can find is one rather lame screenshot…

… and the sad end of the community. I’m not sure there’s ever been a game to make such a total disappearance.

Now this would make an awesome Xbox 360 Live Arcade game…someone get to it.

I remember it! I wonder if a blog post will be all that’s left of World Of Warcraft in a few years time when the servers are all shutdown?

I remember it, too! Every now and then I type “rumble in the void” into my Google search bar… maybe some part of me still hopes that someone will manage to get ritv to run on some server.

    Yeah those days were good.
Long gone now though, the Star Trek and Babylon 5 graphic mods, Greap with his coding, etc.

Check out Jumpgate Evolution though, might be of interest to you all =)

Ok, so it didnt run straight away on xp.

Here’s how i got it running.

Right click exe file, select compatability mode, then select run in 640×480 mode, and Win 98 mode.

Then try to run the game.

It might crash saying certain bmp files couldnt be loaded, if that is the case then simply open the file its erroring on (ex BGHigh.bmp) with photoshop or equivalent, and re-save the bmp file. (8bit compressed).

Now try running it, if it crashes set the options (in options menu) to emulation (not hardware driven).

Just had a quick game with the bots – seems to work ok, im going to see how easy it will be to modify the client code.

    Peace RITV lovers.

Aha, excellent thanks! I’ve been trying to get one of the RITV downloads I’ve found in the past working – no luck until now. I almost don’t want to run it – running old games tends to ruin the magic doesn’t it? :)

Yeah it does sometimes smash the rose tinted glasses a bit!

Did you try it with any success?

Im sure the files would of been on one of the old Wireplay cd’s that came with the BT dialer software.

P.S Fix your date and time code for these posts!
    17 OCT 07.. ?

Got it to work. Thanks! Wish there was at least LAN support though, is there a workaround?

So far my rose tinted glasses are intact, even playing with bots is fun… imagine with a bunch of real people..
